Preparing for the IELTS

Are you planning on becoming a Canadian Citizen?  Let us help you to prepare to take the English Language exams that you will be required to write.  A series of ten classes will teach you how to write the 4 exams (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening).  Depending on the learners, classes will be during the day or in the evenings.  Call us now to learn more.

English as a Second Language Beginnings

English as a Second Language Beginnings is a program designed for students who are just beginning to learn the language.  This class gives you the chance to practice your spoken English. We will work on pronunciation, grammar and understanding what you hear.  Each class is planned around a specific theme or skill. This class is held at the Cold Lake Public Library, South Branch..

 

Dates: January, March  & September   Time  6:30 - 8:00 pm at South Public Library

English as a Second Language Continues

English as a Second Language Continues gives you the chance to practice what you learned in our Beginnings class. . We will work on progressively more difficult  pronunciation, grammar and understanding what you hear.  Each class is planned around a specific theme or skill.

English as a Second Language Reading Circle

English as a Second Language Reading Circle is a new club for ESL students who have already reached an intermediate level of written and spoken English.  On its' own or in addition to another ESL class this program will give participants an opportunity to practice both reading and speaking English.  This class will start when sufficient numbers are enrolled.

Conversational Spanish Level I (Beginner)

Cover the basics of greeting, introductions, time, weather, getting around and more.  A Latin American Spanish Dictionary & Phrase book will be required and will be available for sale at the first class for a cost of $10.00

Conversational  German

Come and learn to speak German in a relaxed atmosphere. Our language classes are fun and you learn too!  A German/English dictionary may be necessary. This class will start when sufficient numbers are enrolled.

General Interest Courses

Digital Photography - Beginner and Intermediate

Using a digital cameral involves more than just technical know-how... Come out and learn the basics and explore lighting, composition, depth of field and how to turn you basic shot into a fabulous shot. This two session workshop will teach you the technical and practical side of digital cameras, and will also allow you to use your creativity.

This class will start once we have a minimum of 5 participants.

Introduction to Photography

Do you take pictures that don't turn out the way you want? Join us to learn what you should do to get those really great shots.  Saturday morning and Monday evening.

Watercolors & Basic Drawing

Watercolours ARE magic! Learn about the colour wheel, composition, complimentary colours, perspective, creating your own theme and painting from real life.  Get a real perspective with pencil and charcoal, shading and light.  All skill levels welcome.

Photoshop/Lightroom

A two hour workshop to learn how to have the best photographs ever.  If you have a laptop and the Photoshop program, bring it to class.  You do not need to have a computer with you to benefit from this class.

Willow Furniture

Learn how to make a bench or a chair using native willow.  Materials will be supplied.  At the end of this one day workshop you will take home a bench or a chair that will be a beautiful addition to your deck or patio for years to come.  This class takes place at Crane Lake and you will need a vehicle large enough to take your furniture home.

Mental Health First Aid for Adults Interacting with Youth

Mental Health First Aid teaches how to help someone showing signs of a mental health crisis. Anyone can benefit from learning Mental Health First Aid.

Leadership Institute

In an effort to draw leaders to this educational opportunity, the course content will be focused on practical areas of interest to second-level leaders, such as planning, board and volunteer relations, shifting the organizational culture, and workforce issues and will be structured around three topics and five modules, presenting concepts relevant to Executive Directors and senior managers. The topics are:

· Essential Relationships

· The Workforce

We will be holding Tutor Training sessions throughout 2011.  If you are interested in becoming a Tutor or you just want to learn more about tutoring adults, give us a call.  Our first session will cover goal setting and planning lessons.  Cost is free to our Tutors and a nominal fee will be charged to other interested individuals.
